C SEED N1: 165-inch MicroLED TV folds itself apart

“First the N1 is invisible. Then it becomes huge,” writes the Austrian manufacturer on the product website of the C SEED N1. This is a television up to 165 inches (about 419 cm) in size that can unfold and fold itself independently.

After the M1 last year, the C SEED company from Austria has introduced an exciting new TV that shares many similarities with the well-known model. For example, the C SEED N1 also relies on 4K MicroLED technology, which is supposed to be superior to LCD or OLED in terms of colors, contrasts and resolution.

Unlike the M1, which was designed by Stefan Pani and disappears into the floor to save space, the new C SEED N1 remains above the floor. However, the N1 has inherited the ability to fold up when not in use, leaving only a minimalist work of art with an aluminum metal base.

When the N1 unfolds, it displays the image crisply on either 103 inches, 137 inches or 165 inches thanks to 4K MicroLED technology and with HDR10+. A special coating on the screen is also supposed to ensure that blacks are displayed even darker and colors even more intensely, while there are supposed to be virtually no reflections.

Thanks to patented “Adaptive Gap Calibration”, the borders between the screen’s folding pans are said to become almost invisible. The MicroLEDs are said to provide a lifespan of 100,000 hours of operation in the N1 and offer twice the color purity of traditional LED screens.

Due to its innovative technology, the C SEED N1 TV naturally brings a lot of weight to the scales. The LED TV already weighs 950 kg in the smallest available screen diagonal of 103 inches. The 165-inch model weighs in at 1,350 kg.

The N1 rests on a deep and quite flat metal base with aluminum elements, which automatically raises and unfolds exactly when you want to use the TV. In addition, the screen is supposed to be able to rotate 180 degrees left and right to accommodate different viewing angles. The advantage over the M1 is, of course, that no floor familiarization is required.

From a purely technical standpoint, the C SEED N1 relies on a 4K UHD resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and gets a maximum of 800 nits or 1,000 nits of brightness, depending on the screen diagonal. It offers a color depth of 16 bits, as well as a contrast ratio of 30,000:1. Also built in are two 100-watt speakers that are supposed to offer immersive sound.

In terms of connections, there are a whole five HDMI and another with HDCP 2.2 support, as well as two USB ports and an RJ45 Ethernet connection. However, the technology requires a lot of power. Thus, at least 500 watts are specified for typical use in the smallest variant, while the 165-incher allows itself a whole 1.2 kilowatts of power.

When you can purchase the C SEED N1, is currently still unclear. So far, the TV on the homepage only shows up in render images. Compared to the M1, which costs around $400,000, the N1 is reportedly much cheaper – relatively speaking, at least. According to Golem.de, the N1 will be offered starting at around 180,000 euros.
